Senate confirms On Tuesday, CBN Gov. and Deputy Gov. nominees
Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, a former Citi Bank Nigeria chairman, will be considered by the Senate on Tuesday for the role of CBN governor.
The Senate will also consider four candidates for the positions of CBN Deputy Governors, who would work with Cardoso to oversee the apex bank’s operations over the following five years.
The Senate will review each nominee after it returns from its yearly break, according to a statement from Opeyemi Bamidele’s media office.
On August 8, the Senate recessed for the duration of its annual break.
The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Senate will reconvene in plenary on Tuesday, September 26, according to the statement. At the Committee of the Whole, we will discuss Dr. Cardoso’s screening.
“Cardoso will be screened with four deputy governors, namely Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala Bello.
Ayodele Olawande and Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, who have been named Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, respectively, will be screened by the Senate on October 3.
Cardoso’s nomination to be the new Governor of CBN had been approved by President Bola Tinubu on September 15.
In addition, Tinubu gave his approval to the first-round nomination of four deputy governors, who will serve terms of five years each, pending the denate’s confirmation.(NAN)
