The Nigerian Senate has summoned Minister of Labour, Dave Umahi, to address the long-standing and deplorable condition of the old Oyo-Ogbomosho road, which has left travellers stranded and frustrated for years.
The decision came after Senator Buhari Abdul-Fatai (APC, Oyo North) passed an urgent public interest motion during plenary on Wednesday.
The senator highlighted the road’s vital role as a vital link connecting the southern and northern parts of Nigeria, saying despite more than a decade of continuous rehabilitation efforts by government, the road remains in poor condition.

Senator Abdul-Fatai expressed concern over the hardships faced by travellers due to the poor road condition, which often leads to accidents and traffic jams, especially for heavy vehicles.
The Senate unanimously seconded the motion, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio directing the Senate Committee on Public Works to investigate the matter and report back within three weeks.
Minister Umahi has been summoned before the committee to explain the huge delay in the completion of the road whose construction began over a decade ago.
Lawmakers are eager for answers and hope that the investigation will lead to a solution and provide much-needed relief to motorists and commuters who have endured years of hardship due to the deterioration of the old Oyo-Ogbomosho road.
