Referring to the lack of information in the oil and gas industry, Adedeji disclosed his ideas to increase the country’s earnings.

On Tuesday, the Senate gave its approval to Mr. Zak Adedeji’s nomination to lead the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Adedeji discussed his ideas to increase national revenue during his Tuesday screening in the upper house, citing the lack of transparency in the oil and gas industry.

He pledged to stop the majority of the leaks. He asserts that obtaining accurate data is the nation’s main issue and that gathering data is essential for making judgements.

He claims that it will make it possible to obtain enough information on the precise number of crude-carrying vessels carried into the county and the associated tax. The head of FIRS noted that the information would be used to identify wealthy people who do not pay enough taxes.

Adedeji also promised to improve Nigeria’s data mining capabilities and centralise the country’s identifying system.

More than a month has passed since President Bola Tinubu designated him as his Special Adviser on Revenue, making him the new FIRS.

Prior to that, Tinubu had given former FIRS Chairman Muhammad Nami permission to take a three-month pre-retirement leave of absence.

Subsequently, the President wrote to the Senate requesting that Zak’s nomination be confirmed as soon as possible. In order to confirm the nomination, Tinubu then wrote to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
