The play “Alo” will be performed in the UK in May 2024, and Chief Segun Awolowo, the grandson of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the former Premier of the dissolved Western Region, is thrilled about the idea.

The Duke of Shomolu Foundation created the play, which was presented in Lagos in 2022.

It details the sage’s life and times before his death in 1987.

In a letter to Mr. Joseph Edgar, Chairman, Duke of Shomolu Foundation, Segun wrote that he and other members of the Awolowo family had been overwhelmed with delight and excitement by the news.

“Not only myself, but every member of the family is excited about the news.

“I recall seeing the performance at the venerable Glover Hall in Lagos (where my late grandfather, the Premier of the Western Region, also enjoyed great theatrical productions).

“I have to admit that I was in awe of the excellent artistic and historically correct result.

“I do not hesitate to not only support the UK showing, but to also provide all type of support that I am able to in order to make this exciting endeavour a huge success record.

In response to the big occasion, he wrote, “I personally look forward to hosting your guests at the cocktail.”

One of Nigeria’s founding fathers, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was also the Federal Commissioner of Finance.

Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nigeria’s first civilian president, and Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the country’s first prime minister, were both in his league.

Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the former Premier of the Northern Region, was also a member of that group. (NAN)
