In order to improve the Cybercrime Prohibition, Prevention Act of 2015, the Senate Joint Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Cyber Security, and National Security & Intelligence has requested memoranda from stakeholders in the digital communication sectors and the general public.

This is stated in a notice of a public hearing signed by Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime Chairman Senator Shuiab Salisu, which was provided to journalists on Friday.

The committee stated that the action is a component of their attempts to enhance Nigeria’s internet governance.

Remember that the Cybercrime Act of 2015 was passed in order to safeguard the nation’s vital information infrastructure, to advance cyber security, and to safeguard computer networks, systems, data, and computer programmes, as well as intellectual property and private rights.

The Act also specifies the procedures for investigating cybercrimes and gathering electronic evidence for criminal prosecutions.

The Senate Committee announced in the public notice that the hearing will take place on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in Conference Room 301 of the Senate Building.

The Senate committee invited all interested parties to submit their memoranda, including government agencies, ICT and cybersecurity specialists, and other interested parties.

The committee stated, “Memoranda should be addressed to the Clerk Senate Committee on ICT & Cyber Security, Room 3.8 White House Building, National Assembly Complex Abuja, and should be submitted in five (5) soft copies and forty-five (45) hard copies within one week.”
