Security Votes Misused, Key Issues Unaddressed by Governors, Says Itodo
The Executive Director of YIAGA Africa, a civil society organization, Samson Itodo, expressed concern over the misuse of security votes for their intended purposes.
He made this statement during a Townhall on Security program on Channels Television to commemorate Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Day. Security votes in Nigeria are monthly allowances allocated to the 36 states in the country to fund security services.
Itodo criticized governors for not utilizing these funds to address critical issues. He emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the use of security votes, highlighting that some governors have mismanaged these resources.
Despite security challenges, Itodo acknowledged the sacrifices made by security personnel and called for recognition of their efforts in safeguarding the nation.
