Security Tightens in Benin as Army, Police Take Control

Army and Police personnel have taken control of Benin City ahead of the Edo election, ramping up security measures to prevent violence.

Security personnel have been bolstered in the state as voters prepare to choose a new governor to succeed outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki in a few hours.

Voters have reportedly begun arriving at their polling places, according to OBASANJONEWS.

Security personnel, including members of the Nigerian Army and police, have blocked a number of important thoroughfares.

Military personnel stopped both sides of the road at the Agho and Joromi intersections on Ekenwa Road in Benin City, making it difficult for cars to pass.

The Army and Police blocked the intersections of Forestry and Mission roads at Oba Market Road in Ebiwe.

The Army also blocked the routes at Sonkpoba Junction, Sapele, and the Asoro Primary School in Sokponba. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria has Army armored personnel carriers (APCs) stationed near Akakpava Road.
