Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi, who is controversial, claims that security personnel are aware of the location of bandits that terrorise Nigerians, especially in the north of the nation. Gumi is based in Kaduna.

During an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Monday night, Gumi disclosed this information, stating that the security personnel trailed him in order to conduct negotiations with the raiders.

In order to guarantee the safe return of the 287 schoolchildren abducted from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the controversial cleric said that negotiations between the federal government and the kidnappers should take place.

He made the case that negotiations might result in the release of hostages in exchange for the kidnappers receiving money.

He went on to say that bandits are only marginalised Nigerians who lack access to social utilities like water, decent roads, and education.

In line with his long-held belief, Gumi stated that in order to put a stop to instability in the North, the government should award bandits amnesty similar to what happened in the Niger Delta.

When questioned about why it was so simple for him to find the bandits and meet with them but the security personnel had trouble locating them, Gumi claimed that the agents were lying because they were constantly pursuing him in order to bargain with the kidnappers.

The security agents are not being honest with you, in my opinion. I never go alone; I always go with them,” he remarked.

When it comes to the robbers’ identity, Gumi stated that the most of them are herdsmen, most of them are Nigerians with a small number of foreigners.
