Security Guards Charged with Stealing N1.1b from Indomie Warehouse

Security guards charged with stealing N1.1b worth of goods from an Indomie warehouse. Learn more about the case and the alleged theft.

Idika Chukwu, who is 70 years old, Nwachukwu Abel, aged 47 and Mbam Moses at the age of 58 were presented before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court in Ebonyi on Tuesday for security duties.

The allegation against them is that they stole goods worth N1.1 billion from an Indomie storage facility located in Uburu, Ohaozara.

According to Eze Chinagorom, the Prosecutor, a series of alleged crimes took place between August 2023 and July 2024 in Umunaga, Uburu. The accused individuals named Chukwu, Abel, and Moses are facing charges related to conspiracy as well as breaking into a warehouse and theft.

According to Chinagorom, the defendants trespassed into the warehouse and unlawfully took an assortment of items such as blank cover packets, pillar lights, bedside lamps, wall bracket stands with covers and reflectors. These actions are said to violate Section 390(a) of Ebonyi State’s Criminal Code Volume1 Law (2009).

Mr. Intelligent Ekwe, the Defense Counsel, pleaded with the court to grant bail under favorable conditions and provided reassurances that his clients would not escape while offering credible guarantors. Moreover, he requested a transfer of venue for trial proceedings to Ohaozara – where the offense was committed.

Bail was granted to the defendants by Magistrate Sandra Ifeanyi-Onyibe. The bail amount was fixed at N2 million each, and it required two dependable sureties who live within the court’s jurisdiction. The case is postponed until September 5th.
