Abdullahi Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State and current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has identified the four categories of herders present in Nigeria.
On Thursday, at a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with President Bola Tinubu and the security chiefs, Ganduje spoke.
The troublesome herdsmen, according to the previous chief executive of Kano, include foreigners and those who travel from north to south.
You’re all aware that there are four different kinds of herders, he said: those who stay there, keep their animals close to their residences, and don’t cause any issues at all.
“Another one is herdsmen travelling from northern parts of this nation to the Middle Belt and Southern parts of Nigeria, causing problems along the routes; and the other is trans-human-herdsmen travelling from West Africa down to northern Nigeria, down to the Southern part of Nigeria, causing many issues down the roads.
The fourth group is made up of herdsmen who have established among particular ethnic groups in Nigeria.
“Because farmers and herdsmen used to work together in harmony in the past.
“Herdsmen provide grazing areas for the farmers, and farmers provide manures for the herdsmen.”
