The pan-Yoruba socio-political movement Afenifere’s secretary-general, Sola Ebiseni, has announced her desire to run for the governorship of Ondo State as the battle for the position is heating up.
Ebiseni asserts that he is still the most qualified candidate to head the state due to his background and understanding of the region.
The scribe of the Afenifere highlighted that all prior governors of the state were raised and shaped by the ideals of Awolowo, even as he described the upcoming November 16, 2024, as a pivotal time for the state.
In interviews with media, the state’s attorney and previous commissioner insisted that knowledge of the people and the region was crucial to the growth of the state.
Ebiseni emphasised that diversifying the state’s economy is vital in order to break free from the state’s heavy reliance on federal funding. She said that this is the only way to free the state from economic servitude.
“Our state has had the exceptional honour of having governors who are not only academically sophisticated, firmly rooted in their chosen professions, extensively reared, and trained in the philosophy of the Awolowo school of thought, if you trace the trajectory of government from the Ajasin era.
It is also necessary for the development of our state to have a thorough understanding of the land and its inhabitants. With this information, the new manager may find resources, generate income from them, and distribute them equitably without concentrating them too much in one or a small number of locations.
