The All Progressives Congress (APC), the party in power, has been charged by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with importing thugs from Jigawa and Nasarawa states to incite violence in Kogi prior to the governorship election on November 11.

Faruk Adejo-Audu, the director of communications for the Muritala Yakubu Ajaka gubernatorial campaign organisation, said during a press conference in Lokoja on Tuesday that the APC is already intimidating voters ahead of the election.

The SDP has voted a vote of no confidence in the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, according to Audu, who expressed regret that some SDP supporters have been attacked throughout the state.

He claimed that the police chief would not treat everyone fairly during the upcoming election.

“The APC have imported military hardware, thugs from Jigawa, and Toto in Nasarawa State, to cause chaos in Kogi,” the SDP chieftain declared.

“It has never occurred in Kogi State that two candidates for governor, Leke Abejide and Muri Ajaka, went to court to obtain a ruling allowing them to campaign. They are acting in this manner solely to avoid being detained by the APC-led administration and eventually appearing in court.

“SDP wants the world to know that Governor Bello has released 21 inmates who were jailed for a variety of electoral violations. Under Bello’s administration, there is usually anxiety and worry before elections.

Bello released 21 people who had received sentences for electoral violations of varying seriousness. Bello freed Okwo after his recent death. Why is Kogi under Bello when elections are approaching and there would be anxiety and fear?
