SDGs initiatives: Adeleke is accused of playing politics by Oyetola’s aide

The Ademola Adeleke administration’s claim that the outgoing governor abandoned the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) projects in Osogbo and Iragbiji has been characterised by Ismail Omipidan, a former chief press secretary to Adegboyega Oyetola, the most recent governor of Osun State, as an attempt to play politics with governance.

This is in accordance with Omipidan’s assertion that former governor Oyetola turned over the locations of the SDGs projects in the State to the appropriate authorities before leaving office.

Omipidan noted that it was absurd for the current administration to accuse the Oyetola government of abandoning projects that were duly finished, equipped, and inaugurated weeks before the expiration of its tenure in a statement signed by Omipidan and obtained by OBASANJO NEWS24 on Wednesday.

He questioned how a government that took office in November 2022 would suddenly wake up 10 months later and declare the projects were abandoned. “The Oyetola administration after the inauguration of the SDG projects, handed over the Skills acquisition centres to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the hospitals to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital,” he said.

“The current administration should be held accountable for abandoning the projects,” he continued.

Omipidan accused the government of accomplishing nothing since taking office in November while also charging them of possessing the necessary abilities and morals to manage the affairs of a state like Osun.

“You didn’t start accusing us of abandoning the projects until 10 months later.

“It is known that in order to ensure effective use of the facilities, the hospitals and skill acquisition centres were given to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital management and the Skills Acquisition Centres to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. How can a government accused of abandoning such initiatives after taking such courageous actions?

The Iragbiji community in particular deserves praise for ensuring proper security around the projects to prevent looting even though they provided the government the land for free to house the projects.

Will the government abandon these projects if they were located at Ede, the Governor’s country estate? I am aware that some of the medical supplies supplied by an NGO to the general hospital in Ila-Orangun were transferred to the general hospital in Ede. If the Governor were able to achieve that, I could be inclined to think that the administration decided to abandon the SDG projects because they were located in Osogbo and Iragbiji rather than Ede.

According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the Ademola Adeleke administration in Osun State was accused of wrecking the state’s finances and economy ever since it took office in November 2022 in a statement signed by the party’s chairman on Tuesday.

However, supporting the state administration, the Osun Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stated that the governor has been successfully managing the state’s economy and finances in a statement by its chairman, Sunday Bisi.
