A tragic plane crash in Brazil has resulted in numerous fatalities. Videos from the scene reveal the extent of the devastation and ongoing emergency response efforts.

When the passenger jet crashed into a residential area near Sao Paulo, it shattered to pieces upon impact after plummeting from a height of five kilometers.

On Friday in the Brazilian city of Vinhedo, an ATR-72 aircraft suddenly crashed to earth causing the death of all 62 individuals onboard.

The aircraft, belonging to Voepass Linhas Aereas, a regional airline, was traveling from Cascavel in the state of Parana towards Sao Paulo when it crashed. According to FlightRadar24 records, the plane had been flying steadily at an altitude of 17,000 feet (5.190 meters) until suddenly entering into an uncontrolled spiral descent while turning right for its destination and colliding with buildings in Vinhedo’s residential area after two minutes.

During a military event held in the southern city of Itajai, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the crash by holding a moment of silence.

The reason for the collision remains unclear. Within aviation, a flat spin arises when an airplane’s center of gravity shifts rearward excessively, causing its nose to rise and airflow over the wings to decrease. This lack of wing air flow leads to a descent in altitude; any ensuing horizontal rotation generates unmanageable spinning. Since there is less air flowing over control surfaces during this type of spin maneuver, recovery can be exceedingly challenging – especially on bigger planes. Furthermore, ice accumulation on aircraft wings may act as another trigger mechanism for entering into a flat spin state.

According to local media reports, a group of investigators from the Brazilian Air Force has been dispatched to identify the reason behind the incident.
