A tragic airstrike intended for the Lakurawa terrorist group accidentally hit two villages in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in numerous residents feared dead and several others injured.

The incident took place at approximately 7 a.m. on Wednesday, impacting the communities of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa. These villages are located close to Surame Forest, known as a hideout for Lakurawa and various bandit groups.

Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, the chairman of Silame LGA, confirmed the incident and mentioned that authorities are currently evaluating the extent of damage resulting from the attack.

The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs began falling on their communities. They were innocent, peace-loving individuals without any criminal record.

“It’s too soon for me to confirm how many people have been killed or injured, as we are still assessing the situation,” he stated.

When reached for comment, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the Spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, declined to comment on the issue, stating that it was not a police operation.
