Scavenger remanded by court after allegations of stealing and criminal trespass
A 22-year-old scavenger named Dauda Alhassan will be held in the detention facility on suspicion of criminal trespass and theft, according to a ruling from an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja.
For a hearing on August 21, Judge Yahaya Sheshi postponed the subject.
The defendant, who lives at Tipper Garage, Kubwa, Abuja, was accused by the police of criminal conspiracy, trespassing, theft, and inflicting harm. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Earlier, Mr. John Okpa, who represented the prosecution, informed the court that Mr. Samuel Udama, the complainant, had filed a report about the incident with the Kubwa Police Station on August 4.
According to Okpa, the defendant broke into the complainant’s home and stole a cooking stove worth N6,000, two shoes worth N17,500, a drum cover made of iron for N5,000, and one shoe worth N17,500.
A tray pan worth N3,500 and a head pan worth N3,000 are additional products.
The complainant’s pants trouser was torn during the pursuit of the defendant, the defendant’s attorney claimed, causing harm to the complainant.
The Penal Code’s section 288’s rules were broken by the offence.
According to section 288 of the law, which Okpa cited, “Anyone who commits theft in or from a building used as a human dwelling or custody of property shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, with fine, or with both.”
The defence attorney also called the court’s attention to the defendant’s lack of a fixed residence and his potential to escape if released on bond. NAN
