Riyadh declared that it will vehemently oppose all acts of sabotage and violence against diplomatic posts and representations.

Saudi Arabia has denounced an assault on its embassy in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, where hundreds have been killed and others have fled due to a power struggle that has raged since April 15.

Armed groups assaulted and wrecked the Saudi Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in the conflict-torn city, the Saudi Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday. The property and lodging of Saudi personnel were also destroyed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in which it stated that it “expresses the total rejection of all forms of violence and sabotage against diplomatic missions and representations” by the Kingdom.

Furthermore, it stressed the necessity of confronting armed groups that it alleged were aiming to “undermine the return of security and stability to Sudan and its people.”

The conflict in Sudan has now lasted for eight weeks. Saudi Arabia and the US have been attempting to persuade the opposing factions to agree to an end to the violence.

Early in May, cease-fire negotiations were launched in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, but they collapsed last week when the mediators claimed there had been several violations of the truces that had been set.

Envoys from the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces resumed indirect negotiations in Jeddah, according to a report from the Saudi news agency Al Arabiya on Tuesday.

The Khartoum crisis will continue to be addressed through cooperation, according to a meeting between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Wednesday in Riyadh, reports Al Arabiya.
