Sam Ode, deputy governor-elect of Benue, meets with Och’Idoma to talk about the killings of herdsmen

Dr. Sam Ode, the deputy governor-elect for Benue State, met with His Royal Majesty, Agaba-Idu Elaigwu Obagaji John, the Och’Idoma, the supreme monarch of the Idoma Kingdom, on Monday to discuss the ongoing killings of civilians by alleged Fulani herdsmen.

Several days after herdsmen militia massacred over 45 people in Apa and Umogidi in Entekpa-Adoka, villages in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state, the meeting at the Ochi’Idoma palace in Otukpo took place.

Speaking during the tour, Dr. Ode denounced the ongoing spate of killings in various areas of the state and promised the people of Benue that the new government of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia would place the protection of lives and property at the top of its priority list.

In order to ensure the prosperity of the state’s numerous residents, the deputy governor-elect further stated that Rev Fr Alia’s government will be completely devoted to fostering peace, harmony, and socioeconomic stability in the region.

Dr. Ode asked security personnel to exhaust all possible avenues in their efforts to find and bring to justice those responsible for the recent horrific deaths that occurred throughout the state while also extending his sorrow to all the victims.

He stated that in order to overcome some of the problems that typically result in violent assaults and disputes in the state, Father Alia’s new government will require the complete cooperation of the Benue State Traditional Council.
