The suspect in the murder of Salome Adaidu expresses no regret over killing his girlfriend, sparking outrage and calls for justice in the case.

Timileyin Ajayi, aged 32, has been held in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nasarawa State Police Command located in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

Timileyin was arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Salome Eleojo Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Salome was killed while visiting the suspect’s residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, located within Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Timileyin Ajayi was taken to the headquarters of the Nasarawa State Police Command on Tuesday from Karshi, a development area in Karu Local Government Area. He was presented along with the knife and machetes used in committing the crime.

Timi was apprehended on Sunday, January 12, while attempting to dispose of Salome’s head after killing her and dismembering her body when she visited him at his home.

Weakened by injuries he sustained when the mob recognized him prior to his arrest, Timileyin admitted to committing the crime.

During an exclusive interview with our Correspondent, when asked if he killed Salome, he replied yes. He explained that it wasn’t planned but happened because they were not always together.

“I ended her life because we weren’t always together, and it wasn’t something I planned. It just happened on that day. There was no premeditated plan; she had been unfaithful. She often kept things hidden from me, which I discovered through her phone—a revelation of chats with other men—that led to my decision,” he explained.

Upon further questioning, he stated that he has no regrets about committing the crime.

Are there any things you wish you’d done differently?

He replied, “No. I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal—that’s what I believe. If you do something to someone, it should be in a reciprocal manner with that person. You need to understand their situation so you can truly empathize and put yourself in their shoes. That’s why I don’t have any regrets; we were genuinely compatible.”

Salome’s older sister, Esther Adaidu, stated that she was unaware of any relationship between her late sister and the suspect as she appealed for justice.

She said, “We have no idea who this Timi guy is. We had never seen him before we were notified that he was the one who murdered and dismembered our sister.”

“I insist on justice for the man sitting over there because he confessed to me that he murdered my sister.”

Salome’s uncle, Samson Adaji Adaidu, expressed the family’s stance.

“The family’s stance is that we were informed by the Nigerian Police, and we are anticipating justice to be served by them,” he stated.

He recounted the tragic event, stating: “He didn’t just kill our daughter; he brutally dismembered her. Her body was cut into over 50 pieces, and it seemed as though he intended to prepare her remains for consumption because they were placed in about six plastic bags.”

SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Nasarawa State Command, assured that justice will be delivered.

He stated, “The investigation is currently underway. Once it is completed, he will be brought to court for prosecution. I want to reassure the family and the public that if this suspect is found guilty of any wrongdoing, there will be no leniency.”
