Ten purported members of the Eiye Confraternity in Sagamu have been detained by the police in Ogun State after they allegedly fought and hurt officers in an effort to avoid being apprehended.
The arrest of the 10 individuals, according to the police on Monday, was part of “Operation Clampdown on Cultists.”
The accused were Adekoya Adesina, Ayinde Olumide, Adebayo Jamiu, Johnson Adeyemi, Ajayi Temitope, Taiwo Olatunji, Oladapo Ayeye, Tunde Banjo, Gbenga Morufu, and Tunde Adenuga, according to the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
Their detention came as a result of a tip that certain cultists had gathered at various points in Odogbolu and were preparing to terrorize Sagamu as part of a continuing struggle for supremacy.
The Police Anti-Cultism Unit mobilized and moved against them to thwart the intended attack.
“When the hoodlums saw the policeman, they assaulted them with deadly weapons. Ten of the cultists were captured once they were subdued, according to Oyeyemi.
An additional statement from a police spokeswoman stated that SP Morakinyo Adejumo, the unit’s second-in-command officer, “was seriously injured during the operation and was rushed to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment.”
Eight live cartridges and a significant amount of marijuana, maybe cannabis, were found on the suspects, according to Oyeyemi.
Olanrewaju Oladimeji, the commissioner of police, has mandated a manhunt for the group’s evading members.
He pledged, “The Command is prepared to bring the fight to their front doors.”
