A Nigerian professor, whose identity remains undisclosed, has been apprehended in connection with the alleged organization of illegal immigration activities, facilitating the entry and transit of migrants from Africa via Russia to various European Union nations.

This development follows an announcement by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) regarding the dismantling of a migrant smuggling operation purportedly orchestrated by this academic.

While the FSB has not disclosed the name of the detained professor, it has confirmed the arrest of five prominent members of the smuggling ring, which includes individuals from Russia, Nigeria, and Ukraine.

Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further associates involved in this illicit network, which is alleged to have generated approximately $650,000 since 2021 through the issuance of fraudulent Russian residence permits and visas.
