The 2nd Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Summit began on Thursday in St. Petersburg, with Russia looking to broaden its long-term development partnership with Nigeria, Africa.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed open the event at Expoforum, which was attended by numerous African dignitaries.
The forum, which includes NAN as a media partner, will feature 30 panel sessions and thematic events on the most critical subjects to boost collaboration between Russia and African countries.
According to the event’s organisers, the Roscongress Foundation, the event aspires to create a fundamentally new level of mutually beneficial partnership to face the challenges of the twenty-first century.
“The event’s goal is to promote efforts to strengthen comprehensive and equal cooperation between Russia and African nations in all areas of society, including politics, security, economic relations, science and technology, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.”
“The forum, which is being held as part of the Second Russia-Africa Summit, is a one-of-a-kind event in Russian-African relations.”
“The event is expected to broaden the scope and nature of Russian-African cooperation, thereby charting the course for its long-term development.”
“Public discussions taking place as part of the event will address the most pressing issues on the Russian-African agenda.”
“Taking into account the full extent of cooperation between Russia and African nations, which extends beyond economic activity, a decision was made to expand the 2023 edition of the Forum with a significant humanitarian element,” the organisation said.
Football legends to grace Summit between Russia and Africa
Vice President Kashim Shettima represents Nigeria.
According to NAN, the event will also include a large-scale exhibition and a venue for business meetings.
It should be noted that the first Russia-Africa Summit was held in the resort city of Sochi in October 2019, with the theme “Peace, Security, and Development.”
The inaugural summit was co-chaired by President Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who was then Chairperson of the African Union (AU). (NAN)
