Cristiano Ronaldo, the seasoned Portuguese footballer, recently disclosed the reason behind his tears following a missed penalty during Euro 2024.
After failing to score a crucial penalty in the 105th minute against Slovenia during the Round of 16 at Euro 2024 held in Germany, Ronaldo was devastated and unable to be comforted.
However, Portugal managed to progress into the quarter-finals of the tournament by defeating their opponents in a penalty shootout.
Less than 30 minutes after his previous penalty miss, Ronaldo confidently approached the ball to take Portugal’s first shootout attempt and successfully converted it.

On his YouTube channel alongside Rio Ferdinand, the 39-year-old discussed the experience at Frankfurt Arena.
“Even though I thought Oblak made a great save, I cried on the day when I missed the penalty,” he said.
My tears weren’t prompted by the fear that if Portugal lost and got eliminated, everything would crumble down on me. That’s not what caused them.
“Imagine that in the past 27 penalty shots, you have successfully scored while I missed. Even though I may feel bad about myself in that moment, it doesn’t even cross my mind.”
Everybody, including your kids, mom and girlfriend who come to the stadium made me feel sad.
