Amid the #EndBadGovernance movement, protesters in Rivers head to Wike’s residence. Discover the reasons and outcomes of the march.
On Tuesday, the #EndBadGovernance protests escalated in Rivers State when a significant number of protestors marched to Port Harcourt and assembled outside Nyesom Wike’s residence. Wike is both the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The protesters were captured in a popular video, chanting and carrying placards that conveyed diverse messages. After finally arriving at Wike’s strongly defended mansion, many of the demonstrators settled on the pavement outside his house with an unwavering yet tranquil resolve.
The discontent over the economic challenges faced by the country has led to protests spreading across different states since last Thursday, with participants making their voices heard.

Wike has been an outspoken critic of the nationwide protests and taken steps to impede demonstrations in the capital city. One notable action was his refusal to approve Eagles Square in Abuja as a venue for Take It Back movement’s gathering.
During an inspection of the construction progress on a 5-kilometer access road to Saburi 1 and 2 in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) conducted in July, Wike spoke to locals and advised them against engaging in protests.
He reassured them that President Bola Tinubu was well informed about ongoing national concerns arising from these issues, assuring residents of his hard work towards addressing the situation at hand.
Wike assured that the current difficulties were transitory and underscored that continued reformation and policies would imminently yield constructive outcomes. He beseeched for composure, stating “Do not become enraged or engage in demonstrations because they will not resolve the predicament.
The administration is attentive to hunger concerns which have spurred diligent efforts toward a sustainable resolution,” recognizing impatience owing to famine but urging forbearance as ultimate advent was forthcoming, thereby disputing incitements of protest as deceitful acts against national interest and personal welfare.
The escalating protests have captured the nation’s focus, as citizens await with anticipation to see how the government will address widespread dissatisfaction.
