Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, a candidate for governor on the ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, has given an explanation for why he abandoned his lawsuit contesting the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Abe and his group went to the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal after the state’s governorship election to contest Siminalayi Fubara, a PDP candidate sponsored by Governor Nyesom Wike.
Abe, who was allegedly exploited by Governor Wike to demolish the Rivers All Progressives Congress (APC), and his party, however, stated this week that they have withdrew the case from the tribunal.
Abe said that the issue was dropped because he didn’t want to directly confront President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a statement signed by his spokeswoman, Parry Saroh Benson.
Because of their partnership with Tinubu, Wike and the G-5 governors, according to Abe, will no longer be at odds with the governor of Rivers State.
He asserted: “The dynamics of politics have altered. Now that Wike and the G-5 are allied with the APC on a national level, this has an impact on the dynamics of what is happening in the state.
“Now, we considered the fact that, if we continue our legal dispute at this time, we will find ourselves in a direct dispute with the President-elect, who has obviously taken a position on the matter based on his body language and the alliance between the APC and the G-5.
We will be fighting this struggle alone and won’t be able to obtain institutional support if we keep on.
