Rivers Govt: Yet to Receive Assembly’s Resolutions on Supreme Court Judgment

The Rivers State Government states it has not yet received the official resolutions of the State Assembly regarding the recent Supreme Court judgment.

The Rivers State Government has stated that it still hasn’t received the resolutions from the State House of Assembly concerning the Supreme Court’s judgment issued on February 28, 2025.

On Monday, the assembly led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule issued Governor Siminalayi Fubara a 48-hour ultimatum to submit the State’s 2025 budget for review during its session.

In a letter to the Speaker of the House, signed by Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government, it was clarified that as of close of business on March 4th, neither the governor’s office nor those of the deputy governor or Accountant-General had received the document.

However, the letter did not mention anyone by name as the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Danagogo mentioned a recent state broadcast by Governor Siminalayi Fubara on March 2, during which the governor reiterated his commitment to uphold the rule of law.

He stated that regardless of personal views on the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Governor had assured Rivers State residents that his administration would comply with and implement the court’s decisions in a manner most beneficial to the state.

The government additionally disclosed that its legal team is still waiting for a certified true copy of the judgment. They reassured the public that once it is received, the governor will take action promptly and appropriately.

The letter stated, “I am referring you to a letter dated March 3, 2025, regarding the subject mentioned above. We found it on social media and would like to inform you that:

As of the end of business on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, we have not yet received the specified letter. Neither the Governor’s office, the Deputy Governor’s office, nor the Accountant-General’s office has received it.

Kindly remember that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, emphasized during a broadcast on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025. He made it clear that despite his personal views on the Supreme Court judgments as a law-abiding Nigerian; he will adhere to and enforce their decisions in line with both the rule of law and what is best for the people of the state.

This development occurs amid increased political tensions in the state, as numerous stakeholders closely watch how the Supreme Court’s decision will influence governance there.
