The prosecution of Cassidy Ikegbidi, the former Chairman of the Ahoada East Local Government Area, Eze Ekpeye Logbo, His Royal Majesty Eze Ngozi Angwo, and more than fifty other defendants on trial for the murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the late Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada East, has been taken over by the Rivers State Government.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, represented by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, informed the court during the hearing that was rescheduled on Tuesday that the state government was interested in taking over the prosecution of the case. This was opposed by the attorneys for some of the defendants after their bail application.

The state government’s motion was granted by Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku, who stated in his verdict that the state government had the legal authority to assume prosecution.

He gave the prosecution’s attorney instructions to serve the defence attorney and submit his counterapplication on the bail request.

Before adjourning to November 24, 2023, for the purpose of considering pleas and bail, Justice Henry-Aprioku determined that, due to the nature of the charge, a bail application must be made in writing and not orally.
