Regarding the ongoing dispute between the state chief executive and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, President Bola Tinubu has met with Governor Sim Fubara and other Rivers stakeholders.
Described as private, the gathering at the presidential palace in Abuja was supposedly summoned to address crisis-related issues, which have already resulted in the resignation of 26 state legislators and the designation of their seats as vacant.
Dr. Peter Odili, a former state governor who is revered as the political mentor of several current Rivers State actors, including Wike, was spotted at the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Wike—the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister—was in the presidential house.
In attendance were Ngozi Odu, the state’s deputy governor, and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Remember that the court-recognized Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, declared the lawmakers’ seats vacant and wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requesting that new elections be held in their constituencies after the lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
