Rivers Crisis: PDP Governors Support Fubara
PDP Governors stand united with Fubara amid the Rivers crisis. Discover the latest developments and what this means for the region.
A definitive stance has been taken by the Governors Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the ongoing political strife in Rivers State.
The discord between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his mentor turned FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has resulted in a divided State House of Assembly.
The silence of the PDP leadership has also raised concerns.
Nonetheless, the PDP-elected governors expressed their endorsement of Fubara through a statement released on Wednesday after their Enugu meeting.
The governors, as expressed in the communiqué signed by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, acknowledged the conflicts within Rivers State Chapter of their party. They pledged to prioritize restoring harmony.
“The Forum has decided to support the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Sim Fubara, and also engage in extensive discussions with relevant parties for a harmonious settlement that will provide an enduring solution to the conflicts.”
Both parties conveyed their dismay at the fact that “the 16-year era of remarkable progress under the PDP-led Federal Government, which saw Nigeria experiencing single-digit inflation, setting up anti-corruption bodies and elevating living standards for all Nigerians has been diminished during the lacklustre reign of APC-led government.”
During these difficult times, the Forum stands in solidarity with the Nigerian people and pledges to restore past glories such as minimal inflation rates, accessible food, fuel and transportation services. Additionally, we endeavor to generate consistent foreign direct investment inflows which consequently raise the value of naira while improving overall human standards of living as previously experienced.
The meeting praised the Governors of PDP-controlled states for their creative strategies in various areas, including infrastructure, education, health, women and youth programs. Their prompt execution of development projects nationwide was also acknowledged.
Thus, the forum urges Nigerians to avoid chaos as we move towards 2027 when PDP is expected to take power.
In the communiqué, it was expressed that the first PDP Governors meeting held outside Abuja in recent times and hosted by His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah received appreciation from all attendees. They extended their gratitude for his efforts towards holding the Party together not only within Enugu State but also throughout the southern Eastern Geo-political Zone. The virtue and accomplishment of Governor Mbah were highly praised, with reference to fundamental projects and interventions he has accomplished.
