Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has decided to prolong the temporary injunction that prevents the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from taking any action against the 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This extension was granted after an application made by the lawmakers’ counsel, Steve Adehi. Justice Okorowo justified his decision by referring to Order 26, Rule 10 of the Federal High Court, which grants the court discretionary power to grant such requests in the pursuit of justice.

The judge was convinced by the arguments put forth by the lawmakers’ counsel, who asserted that granting the order would serve the interests of justice. Consequently, Justice Okorowo adjourned the case until January 24 for further proceedings.
