Beatrice Itubo, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is now in negotiations with Peoples Democratic Party governor Siminalayi Fubara, amid the political crisis that is currently playing out in Rivers State (PDP).

“Itubo informed our correspondent that the conversation is still ongoing after our meeting with the governor.”

She did not, however, elaborate on whether she was leaving the LP for the PDP or if she was only in talks to back her party’s Fubara-led administration.

Itubo revealed that she would only provide information when their discussions were over.

On Monday, twenty-seven members of the Rivers State House of Assembly switched allegiance from the PDP to the APC.

Up to May 29, 2023, the 27 members were reportedly devoted to Martins Amaewhule, a supporter of former state governor Nyesom Wike.

There was a disagreement between Fubara and Wike, his predecessor, which led to the start of the crisis in the 32-member Assembly.

Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has once again encouraged President Bola Tinubu to summon Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) current Minister, to order on the political climate in Rivers State.

According to Clark, there will be anarchy throughout the nation if all of the outgoing governors insist on ruling over their successors.
