Political supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have condemned Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for attributing the explosion in Port Harcourt to the minister.
The “Rivers Leaders Forum” members expressed disappointment over the continuous accusations against Wike. Senator Olaka Wogu, the group’s leader, stated that linking the explosion to the solidarity walk participants for Wike was unreasonable as the explosion site was not part of their route.
Senator Wogu called on Governor Fubara to take responsibility for safeguarding lives and properties in the state. Regarding the state of emergency imposition debate, Senator Wogu advised the Governor to operate within the confines of the law.
He further criticized the establishment of caretaker committees for local government administration, arguing that it contradicts the amended law passed by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly. Wogu also viewed this move as a challenge to President Bola Tinubu, who had included a clause in his peace pact prohibiting caretaker committees in the state.
Emeka Woke, the Director-General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency and former Chief of Staff to Wike, questioned the alleged takeover of responsibilities by the state commissioner for health, Adaeze Oreh, from the police in handling the explosion incident. Other prominent figures present at the press briefing were Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, Ken Chikere, Josiah Olu, Kenneth Kobani, Sampson Parker, Henry Ogiri, and Wisdom Wakama.
