In light of the recent political unrest in Rivers state, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Paul Omata, who oversees Zone 16, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, has travelled to the region to evaluate security conditions.
During his speech to the officers on Thursday, June 27, in the Police Mess in Port Harcourt, AIG Omata stressed the value of impartiality and professionalism in preserving the state’s peace and security.
“I’m here to evaluate the security situation and make sure our men are performing their duties efficiently,” he declared.
He encouraged the Commissioner of Police to continue being firm, modest, and professional while also applauding him and his staff for maintaining state composure.
In order to obtain a direct grasp of the situation on the ground, the AIG stated that he would go to the headquarters of the local government region.
He stressed how important it is to stop violence, protect public safety, and remain impartial in the face of political unrest.
Be extremely professional in the way you perform your duties, he urged. To avoid making decisions that could impact the command, consult your DPOs, Area Commanders, DCs, and the CP for information you are unsure of.

“Restrain the men who work for you, so that they do not become misguided and that criminals do not seize the chance to control the situation.”
“We are grateful that no LGA has had its stuff destroyed or stolen. Regretfully, two people lost their lives that day. Don’t let that happen again; stay on task.
“Remain focused; seek clarification from your Area Commanders, DCs, and CP if you have any questions so they can provide the appropriate guidance.
“Even here, we seek guidance from the DG Ops, DG South South, and occasionally the IGP on anything we don’t know.”
The Inspector General of Police was keen to reward diligence, as the AIG Omata revealed during the decoration of the two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
“I would like to thank the Inspector General of Police for deeming them deserving of this promotion. The officers in the command are fantastic, and I would like them to stay there.
“I give them instructions to keep doing what they do best, which is safeguard people and property. Junior officers should be motivated and mentored by them while they work. I implore those who have not yet been promoted to work diligently and to have faith that their moment will come.
