The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stated that his team has met all the requirements set by the parties involved in the political crisis in Rivers State, as agreed upon with President Bola Tinubu, in order to restore peace in the state.
During a visit to the Oba of Ogbaland in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, His Royal Highness Eze Nnam Obi III, on Saturday, Wike assured the king of his unwavering commitment to peace in the state and emphasized that he will not let him down.
“We have fully embraced the decisions made by Mr. President and have diligently fulfilled all the conditions outlined by him. As I promised, I will not disappoint you,” the former Rivers State governor affirmed.
Wike also conveyed that the request for intervention made by the king to ensure peace in the state has been acknowledged and accepted. He urged the king to continue praying for Mr. President, so that he may be endowed with wisdom to effectively lead the nation.

Wike also conveyed that the request made by the king for Mr. President’s intervention to ensure peace in the state has been acknowledged and accepted. He urged the king to continue praying for Mr. President, so that he may be bestowed with wisdom to effectively govern the nation.
Governor Wike expressed his appreciation for Tinubu’s involvement in resolving the political conflict between him and his successor, Governor Fubara.
He acknowledged that Tinubu, being from a different state, had taken the initiative to promote peace in the country, regardless of political affiliations.
Wike emphasized the importance of peace in the states, as it contributes to overall peace in Nigeria. He urged Tinubu and his council to continue praying for the President, hoping that he would be guided by wisdom in governing the country. During Tinubu’s visit to the Palace of the Oba of Ogbaland, he was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Senators Anyanwu and Mpigi, as well as Chief Giadom. Other notable individuals in his entourage were Minister Sylva, Senator Lopobiri, and Felix Obuah.
Tinubu’s intervention in the Rivers political crisis was instrumental in restoring peace. He held a meeting with Wike and Fubara, which resulted in a truce on December 18, 2023.
The meeting, which took place at the Aso Villa in Abuja, was attended by former Governor Odili and some traditional rulers from the state. Vice President Shettima and Chief of Staff Gbajabiamila were also present. As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that all ongoing court cases initiated by Fubara and his team would be withdrawn immediately. Additionally, the Wike camp agreed to drop all impeachment proceedings initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly against the governor.
This resolution was documented and signed by Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule, and other key figures in the crisis, including the National Security Adviser, Ribadu.
The dispute between the two factions has been resolved with the decision to acknowledge Martin Amaewhule as the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, rather than Edison Ehie. Amaewhule and his 26 supporters, who recently switched from the PDP to the APC, will be recognized by both sides.
