Rivers Assembly Crisis: Lawmakers Supportive of Wike Criticize Fubara
The recent statement made by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, referring to the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly as “non-existent,” has been strongly condemned by the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly.
During the plenary session on Wednesday, Major Jack, the Majority Leader, brought up this issue on the floor of the House.
The lawmakers expressed their disapproval of Governor Fubara’s statement, considering it to be reckless and a direct insult to Nigeria. Additionally, during the same plenary session, the pro-Wike lawmakers merged three existing local government laws to create a new comprehensive Local Government Law.
This new law encompasses various aspects such as the establishment, structure, composition, finance, and functions of the local government councils, as well as other related matters in the state.
Amaewhule, in a statement released to the press, explained that the purpose of this bill is to consolidate all the local government laws in the state into a single legislation.
