Rivers: APC group cautions party about 27 lawmakers, labeling them as ‘fair-weather politicians
Under the auspices of the Concerned Members of the All Progressives Congress, a few APC members have chastised the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly for supposedly abandoning the party.
According to Obasanjonews.com, some lawmakers led by Speaker Amaewhule left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favour of the All Progressives (APC) following the political upheaval that is now roiling the state.
On the House floor in December of 2023, Amaewhule declared the 27 legislators’ defection.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who insisted that their method of defection was unlawful, recently declared their seats empty.
The MPs have reportedly reversed course and declared that they are still PDP members.

This was confirmed by a ruling made on Monday by the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, which determined that Amaewhule and the other 26 lawmakers remain PDP members.
In response, the APC organisation issued a statement under the signature of its president, Ezegwu Thomas, cautioning the party’s leadership not to accept the lawmakers, branding them as fair-weather politicians.
We must confront an urgent issue that jeopardises the foundation of our wonderful party, according to the statement. We would like to issue a warning to all faithful members of our party regarding recent happenings.
As you may be aware, a few legislators from the Rivers State House of Assembly openly switched to our respected party from the PDP. But in a strange turn of events, they have now denied having anything to do with our party, therefore we are forced to classify them as political prostitutes who have no loyalty to any political party.
“We are quite concerned about this development and advise our members to proceed with utmost caution when interacting with these people. Their past demonstrates a pattern of political opportunism, and we are concerned that their inclusion in our ranks may be fatal to the cohesion and advancement of our party.
“We warn our members that when it serves their interests, these people—who have no problem distancing themselves from their own party—will not think twice about doing the same to our party or even to our illustrious President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We can’t afford to let our defences down and let these swinging politicians into our ranks.
