Senator Shehu Sani has suggested that the poor are the hardest hurt by the current economic downturn, while the wealthy are immune.
Sani, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former congressman, made the claim on Tuesday via his verified Twitter profile.
“In our country, the rich are in Noah’s Ark, and the poor are in the Titanic,” Sani wrote.
The cost of life in the country has risen as the price of fuel at the pump jumped to N612 per litre last week.
The US dollar has recently risen significantly against the Nigerian naira in the exchange market.
