Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Mbamara, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi who was abducted by assailants on Friday evening, has been released.
Rev. Fr. Raphael Edeogu, chancellor of the diocese, stated that the priest was freed on Sunday after spending two days in captivity.
The diocese thanked the Catholic faithful and their acquaintances who prayed for the priest’s release.
Edeogu stated in the release, “With delight, Nnewi Diocese announces today, June 4, 2023, that Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Mbamara, who was abducted two days ago, has been freed.
“We deeply appreciate everyone who joined us in praying for God’s intervention.
“Please join us in joyfully recognizing God’s compassion once more. “Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, as it is now, and as it will ever be throughout eternity.”
The cleric, who was reportedly a student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was abducted while traveling from Awka to Nnewi on Friday.
