Reintroducing the former national anthem has reportedly always been President Bola Tinubu’s top objective.
In an announcement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu revealed this to the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum, or ACF, at their meeting at the State House in Abuja.
He claimed that he had no choice but to follow the National Assembly’s legislation restoring the former national anthem.
Tinubu believes that Nigeria’s diversity ought to be protected and honoured.
“Let me make a reference to something that occurred yesterday,” he stated. The national anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee,” has been changed.
Some say, all right, but what exactly? Is it what you’re most interested in? It is my top concern. Like the National Assembly, I agree. I have to follow their laws if they are made, or we can have an open discussion and end the chapter.
However, there is the diversity issue. Who gave Nigeria its name? Is that not the United Kingdom? Or someplace else? Have we adopted a new name? Our nationality is Nigerian. Our passport attests to that.
We will continue to cherish our differences, love one another as brothers and sisters, and be Nigerians as long as we are a single family.
“God Almighty is the one who places you there and adopts you into that family. You are powerless over it.
“Vote for me as Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not for me as a Yoruba man,” I stated when I arrived pleading for votes.
