Restoration of National Grid Achieved After Collapse – TCN
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful restoration of the national grid following a system disturbance that occurred at 4:28 p.m. on Thursday.
In a statement issued on Friday evening, TCN declared that full recovery was achieved by 10:00 p.m. on the same day.
According to TCN, a report from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo revealed that the system disturbance was triggered by a significant reduction in generation capacity, primarily attributed to gas constraints. This reduction led to a rapid decline in system frequency, resulting in a sudden grid imbalance.
Furthermore, TCN stated that the imbalance in grid stability was exacerbated by the sudden tripping of Egbin generation turbine 3, leading to an additional loss of 167MW load and ultimately resulting in the collapse of the grid.
However, the grid has since been recovered and stabilized, with TCN confirming that all generated power is currently being transmitted to distribution load centers nationwide.
Emphasizing its steadfast commitment to addressing grid challenges and actively working to mitigate disruptions, TCN reiterated its dedication to collaborating with other stakeholders in the power sector value chain to minimize the impact of challenges beyond its control and swiftly restore the grid to normal operation.
The statement underscores TCN’s proactive approach in managing grid stability and its determination to ensure the uninterrupted transmission of power across the country. It highlights the complex interplay of factors involved in maintaining a reliable and efficient national grid and underscores the importance of collaboration and coordination among stakeholders in the power sector.
