Resident doctors have commenced a 7-day warning strike, highlighting urgent labor disputes and calling for immediate resolution to avoid a prolonged disruption in healthcare services.
NARD has initiated a week-long cautionary Strike at all its facilities throughout the country.
The resident doctors are on strike, demanding the immediate release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, their colleague who has been held captive for more than 8 months.
According to a statement made by Dr. Dele Abdullahi, the President of NARD, the strike is set to commence on Monday, August 26th, 2024 at midnight.

During the virtual Emergency National Executive Council meeting held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, Abdullahi revealed that the decision had been made.
He announced that the cautionary strike would endure for a week without any emergency facilities, making it an all-out halt.
Almost 8 months ago, along with her husband and nephew, Dr Ganiyat Popoola – a registrar who works in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre located in Kaduna – was kidnapped.
Popoola and her nephew continue to be held captive despite the release of her husband in March.
Several weeks ago, NARD members staged protests in tertiary hospitals nationwide to call for the prompt release of Dr Popoola.
