The House of Representatives has launched a probe into allegations that Bobrisky offered a ₦15 million bribe to EFCC officials. Discover the details behind the case and the investigation process.

The House of Representatives has decided to initiate an investigation into the purported payment of a N15 million bribe to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by Idris Okuneye, commonly known as Bobrisky.

This decision was made following a motion of urgent public importance presented by Patrick Umoh during the plenary session on Thursday.

It is noteworthy that the controversial figure was sentenced to six months in prison earlier this year for the offense of currency mutilation.

On Tuesday evening, Martins Vincent Otse, also referred to as VeryDarkMan, released a voice recording that allegedly features Bobrisky asserting that he bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to have the money laundering charges against him dismissed.

In the recording, Bobrisky further claimed that he did not serve any time in prison following his conviction, alleging that his godfather arranged for him to complete his sentence in a lodge rather than in a correctional facility.

During the debate on the motion, Umoh, who represents Akwa Ibom State, characterized the allegations as “damning.”

He voiced his concerns regarding the detrimental image and representation of Nigeria as a corrupt nation, as well as the country’s ongoing efforts to overcome such perceptions.

As a result, the House has resolved to establish an ad-hoc committee comprised of individuals of impeccable integrity to promptly investigate the allegations and report back to the House within three legislative weeks.
