The Minister of Finance, Mr. Dele Alake, has been called before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee looking into the failure of the mass transit project in Nigeria to provide an explanation.
The Minister of Trade and Investment, the Federation’s Accountant General, and the Federation’s Head of Service were also called.
The committee’s chairman, Rep. Victor Ogene, reportedly issued the summons on Wednesday in Abuja, according to NAN.
He claimed that the committee made the decision to ask the ministers and others to provide it with the necessary details about prior mass transport plans in terms of funding.
The agencies were invited to appear before the committee on September 11 and 12 at 11 am, he claimed, but the committee hadn’t yet received the necessary document.
In addition, he instructed the clerk of the committee to invite the Infrastructure Bank’s managing director to appear on the same day and time.
The National Association of Road Transport Owners and the Road Transport Employers of Nigeria were also invited to appear before the committee by its chairman.
However, it cautioned individuals in question not to take the invitation lightly and added that failing to accept would anger the lawmakers, using their legislative authority.
“Let me warn you that this invitation is not a joke; the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is extending it to them.
He continued, “And if for any reason any of them fail to accept this invitation, we shall invoke the full power of this committee as enshrined in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, as amended.”
