Yusuf Tuggar, the minister of foreign affairs, and the head of NIDCOM, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, have been called before the House of Representatives in relation to the detention of Nigerians in Ethiopian jails.

The action followed a motion made on Thursday by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and others.

Chinda moved the motion by stating that 250 Nigerians are currently detained in Ethiopia.

Some of the detainees, according to the congressman, were apprehended while using Ethiopia as a transit country.

He stated that Nigerians in the nation of East Africa are frequently victimised and mistreated.

Currently spending time in Ethiopia’s Chaota Maximum Security and other prisons are some Nigerians. The majority of them are passengers using the Ethiopian Airport as a stopover.

As a result of repeated attacks, 250 Nigerians who are now serving prison sentences in Ethiopia “may die in prison if urgent steps are not taken to save them,” he warned.

He issued a warning that immediate action is required to protect Nigerians in the nation.
