The House of Representatives has made the decision to address the nation’s capital flight by enhancing local human capability in the oil and gas sector.

This was said during the committee’s Abuja inauguration by lawmaker Thomas Ereyitomi, Chairman of the Committee on Petroleum Resources, Training Fund.

Repositioning the drive for manpower development, economic growth and diversification, social development, and maintaining the nation’s competitiveness in the global market are among the other goals the House of Representatives has committed to, he said, highlighting the GNP of Nigeria.

He pointed out that because of its ongoing massive workload, the committee continued to be one of the Lower House’s most significant committees.

The legislator stated, “Our appointment to this committee is a demonstration of the seriousness the house leadership attaches to this committee.”

Ereyitomi stated that the committee’s mandate, which is stated in the house’s standing orders, is evidence of its crucial role in determining the destiny of the country.

It gives me great pleasure to submit our committee’s extensive work plan for the upcoming term in order to accomplish these objectives.

He remarked, “This plan is designed to guide our efforts, focusing on the key areas that will enable us to effectively fulfil our mandate.”

The Labour Party’s Amobi Ogah, an Abia State lawmaker, expressed dissatisfaction that not more had been done to train indigenous players to grow the industry.

“The purpose of the Training Fund is to develop capacity in the oil and gas industry, but as of right now, we can’t really say that the organisation has done much to train our people locally,” Ogah stated.

He asserts that one of the key goals of establishing this organisation was to help our people grow, as we are still using foreigners to repair and maintain our refineries.

He claimed that the task of enhancing people’s potential and abilities fell to the agency.

In order to ensure that the nation transitioned from an excessive reliance on foreigners for gas and oil to domestic production, he continued.
