According to the daily intelligence briefing on Ukraine released on Twitter by the British Defense Ministry, Ukraine fired down at least six balloons over Kyiv on Wednesday.
According to the report, the radar reflector-mounted balloons were seen over Kyiv by the Ukrainian military forces.
According to the article, on February 12, the Ukrainian air force claimed to have seen balloons over eastern Dnipropetrovsk.
The aircraft “likely represent” a new Russian information-gathering strategy to learn about Ukrainian air defence systems, the ministry said, adding that it is “likely” that the balloons were Russian. This could “compel the Ukrainians to expend valuable stocks of surface to air missiles and ammunition.”
According to the British Defense Ministry, a balloon-shaped object forced Moldovan airspace to be shut down for a period of time on Tuesday. The ministry stated that there was a “realistic chance” that this was a Russian balloon that had strayed into Ukrainian airspace.
If the balloons matched those that were recently seen and shot down over North America, the Defense Ministry did not specify.
In his daily address on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that nearly the entire country had power at the end of the day, calling it “another sign of our endurance.”
