Sule Balarabe, the commissioner of police in Cross River State, said that they don’t expect there to be any tension or public unrest in the state’s capital because of yesterday’s decision by the Supreme Court to choose a new Obong of Calabar.
The police chief told Obasanjonews24 over the phone that the police are constantly on watch in circumstances like this.
“To be completely honest, we don’t see any strange circumstances or a breakdown of law and order in the state capital.”
“Even though they haven’t yet informed us of the Supreme Court’s decision, we always take the initiative as the state’s top security agency.”
“My soldiers are on high alert.” “But in all honesty, I don’t anticipate any sort of incident,” the chief cop stated.
The Supreme Court ordered Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V to resign after more than ten years of legal wrangling over who should hold the coveted Efik traditional stool. However, he may still nominate himself to become the Obong of Calabar.
Anthony Ani, a former finance minister who had been passed over for the stool, went to court.
