Divine Ikubor, alias Rema, a phenomenal afrobeats artist from Nigeria, is edging closer to matching Hugh Masekela’s record for the highest-charting African song on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
This week, the remix version of his successful song ‘Calm Down,’ which featured American vocalist Selena Gomez, reached a new apex at No. 4 on the Hot 100 chart, a Nigerian record.
With this accomplishment, Rema now has the second-highest charting song by an African artist in the annals of the Hot 100.
Obasanjonews24 recalls that Rema previously surpassed Wizkid’s record as the highest charting Nigerian main artist in Billboard Hot 100 history, after ‘Calm Down’ surpassed ‘Essence’ which peaked at number 9 last year.
Next week, “Calm Down” is expected to reach a new zenith.
Wizkid and Tems have attained number one on the Hot 100 chart, but only as featured performers and not as headlining artists.
