Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has ordered Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, to defend him against the accusations of misconduct made against him by the state House of Assembly.

This governor made this statement in response to the deputy governor’s apologies to him.

Doyin Adebowale, his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy, signed Akeredolu’s statement.

The governor declared that he stays out of the state House of Assembly’s business.

Earlier, the beleaguered deputy governor expressed regret to Akeredolu for the state’s current political unrest.

Aiyedatiwa expressed sorrow that the unfavourable headlines that had followed the issue must have embarrassed the governor in the last few months during a media conference in Akure, the state capital.

The deputy governor distanced himself from any protest and demanded that the governor step down due to his health issues, pledging his allegiance to the governor and dedication to the advancement of Ondo State.

The governor, however, responded by stating that he “may not be averse to embracing, cautiously, any seeming overtures impelled by genuine contriteness, making the following clarifications pertinent.”

“Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, the governor of Ondo State, does not interfere in the operations of the Ondo State House of Assembly, notwithstanding the veiled suggestions made during the news conference. In the face of an impeachment attempt against the Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governor has never before “persuaded” the “distinguished members of Ondo State House of Assembly to embrace the political solution offered” by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Unwavering reverence for the institution that represents the people should be the best expression of respect that all elected and appointed government officials can show to the people.”

“All sorts of lies against my person in the media,” the Deputy Governor said in reference to the House of Assembly’s accusations of misconduct against him. It is only fitting that we suggest he provide this argument before the same House of Assembly, which has accused him of 14 serious transgressions.
