Rehired by the court Acting Taraba PDP leader
Alhaji Inuwa Bakari, the former interim chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, has been ordered to be immediately reinstated by the Taraba State High Court, which is located in Jalingo, the state’s capital.
The reinstated acting party chairman’s requests were all approved by the judgement, which was presiding over by Justice Nuhu Adi.
Bakari was fired by Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, the previous governor of the state, and Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, Ishaku’s former special adviser, took his place.
Bakari requested the court to invalidate Bawa’s appointment because the party’s constitution’s due process provisions were not observed. The former governor’s choice did not sit well with Bakari.
The judge ordered the immediate reinstatement of Bakari in the lengthy decision, which he labelled “unconstitutional” because it referred to the appointment of Bawa.
He asked Bawa to stop functioning as the party’s chairman and told Bakari to resume his role as the organization’s interim chairman right now.
Bakari, who expressed happiness at the verdict and pledged to resume his duties as the court instructed, asked the party’s supporters to maintain their composure and avoid doing anything that would cause a crisis.
In addition, the judge’s attorney, Barrister John Okezie, praised the judge’s work, adding that he had put the appropriate peg in the right place.
Before deciding on the next course of action, the ousted chairman said he would need to consult with his counsel.
Only a few days had passed since the state administration established a committee to settle the continuing leadership dispute inside the party before the judgement was handed down.
